  • MAY MONTHLY MISSION RAIL OFFERING

Furaha House, founded by our own Solange Woodson, strives to lead African refugee and immigrant families to become self-sustaining through culturally competent services and multidisciplinary programs in partnership with like minded organizations by establishing a diverse, dynamic and sustainable community. Many refugees we work with spent between 7-19 years in refugee Camps under deplorable conditions with no education or jobs. When they get to the US, they only receive 3-4 months of assistance and they are sent to take care of themselves. In 4 months they have to master English even though they might not be literate in their own native language; they have to look for work and have to learn how to budget and pay bills in a language that is not familiar to them. Most of these families have experienced all of sort of trama and don’t receive any mental health assessment or services. The list of challenges go on and on but all Hope has not been lost.

  • HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – METHODIST BUILD 2017

Help make the Leal family’s dream of home ownership come true!  Tina and her son Cordero have already helped to build homes for other families; now it’s their turn.  Their home is being built in Bastrop:  306 Martin Luther King Drive, Bastrop, TX 78602.

Donations are needed to support the build.  Write a check to NWHillsUMC and put Habitat in the memo line.  The Leal’s home will be built with a combination of the $85,000 donation from ten Austin area churches and in-kind donations.   In addition, the family will take on an interest-free mortgage.  To date we have raised $4550 of our $8500 sponsorship.   Email or call Dee Susong (lolabeetle@gmail.com; 512-740-0806) with any questions.  Sign up in the narthex or register for a work date at: http://nwhillsumc.austinhabitat.volunteerhub.com/.  NWHillsUMC work day is: Saturday, June 3 (8am-4pm)

  • SEEKING OFFICE ANGELS

  • SON DAYs CAMP A week of fun in the Son!     JUNE 26 – JUNE 30, 2017

Arts, crafts, sports, water balloons, water slide and worship, along with fellowship and activities using the many amenities of Cross Roads will sure to be a memorable and rewarding experience for your child. This year marks the 2nd year of Son Days Overnight Camp at Cross Roads Retreat Center and we are thrilled!  Our camp counselors have all been trained by standards set by the State of Texas and the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. Our aim is to create an atmosphere of inclusiveness and guidance to set as example the lessons that Jesus taught us in a serene and nurturing setting. Each day children will be able to select small group activities such as arts or sports and will begin and end with large group time of worship in either indoor or outdoor sanctuary.

Pastor Audrey Spencer will also be participating in this camp as well.  Camp Directors are Martha Calhoun, Children’s Ministry Coordinator of the Capital District UMC and Kristen Hillert, Children’s Director at Servant Church, Austin.  Interested in being a camp counselor? We need leaders and assistant leaders 16 years old and up!  Contact Martha Calhoun:   Capital District Office 512-444-1983.  To register or more information:  www.crossroadsretreat.org.  Brochures for camp can be found in the Church Lobby or Church Office.

  • LIBRARY CORNER

Woodlawn Movie DVD – In 1973 Birmingham was torn by racism and hate and God worked through the Woodlawn high school football team to unite the city and ignite a spiritual awaking. This occurred when an outsider convinced the coach he needed to talk to the team. Because of the words of this one man, all but 3 players accepted Jesus  and caused a miraculous change with the team, school and entire community!

Woodlawn Study (One Hope, One Truth, One Way) includes DVD, study guide and journal. The ONE Study has 6 lessons covering what it takes for a community to develop hearts ready for a revival, costs for following Jesus, how God uses people given over to his will, how Jesus redefines our identify, how revivals serve God’s purpose not ours, and how we are rewarded by seeing God accomplish the impossible.  One person can make a difference for God, will it be you?

Ben Hur DVD  tells the story of a man who is falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother and sentenced to a life of slavery.  When he escapes, his quest for revenge is halted when he meets Jesus.  Unlike the original movie, this one leaves the audience with a strong message of forgiveness and portrays our savior, full of love and grace. This Ben Hur is a must  see for Christians since the original  movie only gave Jesus an unspeaking  cameo part and in this movie he is one of the main characters.
