A Special Message On General Conference

November 4 –
All Saints Sunday
Join us for a special worship service on Sunday, November 4.  On this day we will pause to remember our church members and other loved ones who have died and are now living in the heavenly realm.  All of us will be invited to come forth and light a candle in memory of friends and family we have lost. Please note that Holy Communion will not be offered during the worship service on All Saints Sunday.  However, Holy Communion will be available along the sanctuary wall before and after worship services.

Joys and Blessings

Connie H. Shimfessel, a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, was a member or Austin Flight #52 , part of Texas Honor Flight going to Washington, D.C. in September 7 & 8. There were 41 veterans from WW2, Korea and Vietnam. They visited memorials for each of these conflicts and Memorials for Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Air Force and the Iwo Jima Marines.

They also visited the Arlington National Cemetery and witnessed the charging of the Guard Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier followed by a Wreath Laying Ceremony.  Connie and three WW2 veterans were given the honor of participating in this ceremony.

“The respect we received from our arrival at Austin Bergstrom Airport throughout our trip including our return to Austin was very humbling. Thanks to all who help us and to those who participated.”

SPECIAL MUSIC PERFORMANCES
AT NWHILLS UMC
IN SEPTEMBER

Ring of Faith Bell Choir
Adoration Dance
& Adoration Dance

An Invitation from our music director
This year we are putting on a spectacular Christmas cantata
during the 11:00 worship service on Sunday, December 9th.  Both the Sanctuary Choir and Ring of Faith bell choir will be performing, accompanied by an ensemble of professional musicians. It will be a wonderful experience for all who attend, and an even moremagical experience for those who participate.

With this in mind, I invite any of you who are interested to join the bell choir or sanctuary choir (or both) for this Christmas celebration!  Whatever your prior musical experience (or lack thereof) – we’ll gladly assist anyone who wishes to participate.  If you are interested, please email me at tkroff@nwhillsumc.org and I will send you more information.  I hope to hear from you.
God bless!
Taylor Kroff, traditional worship music director

or thirsty and give you something to drink? Mathew 25:37

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of thesebrothers and sisters of mine,
you did for me. Mathew 25:40

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and money to our Rise Against Hunger event. The goal was to prepare 25,000 meals. TOGETHER WE DID IT There is nothing more fulfilling than to be apart of something helping so many. Thank you to Volunteers In Missions. It was their dedication and work that went into making this possible. Thank you Dee Susong, Pam Carmagnola, Pastor Laura, the Men’s Ministry, and so many more.

VIM ask everyone to bring a hat or put on a hair net. Lots of fun,

 ANSWERED AND UNANSWERED PRAYERS
I was reminded the other day that there are three answers to our prayers of petition to God.  There is “yes”, “no” and a “not yet”.  When God answers, “Yes”, then things all fall into place as if on greased rails.  A desperately needed promotion comes through, a new job is found, a sick child is cured, a tumor is benign, a hazardous trip is completed safely, a tornado misses a school.  However, when the answer is “No”, or “Not now”, it is hard for us to differentiate between the two; especially as time passes and our petition appears to just sit on a shelf, unanswered.   We as humans live and think more in the here and now rather than in the years or decades in which God acts; for “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day” (2Peter3:8).  Sometimes the “No” eventually becomes obvious.  A loved one dies or a disease becomes chronic or fatal.   However, it is the last category, the one that leaves us hanging, that is so difficult for us to endure.  Do we continue to petition God for the same thing day after day and year after year, or do we ask once and be done? Does God get frustrated with us for our continual supplications?  No, I think our loving God sees our continual supplications not as frustrating but as proof of our continual trust in His beneficent mercy.  Some things I have petitioned for in my life were answered quickly, almost instantly; others were answered “No”, but it took awhile for me to realize and accept the answer.  Other petitions have been long in the answering and, I am still praying for them, since God made me persistent. However, I know He loves me and cares about me, so I will keep on praying until I receive His answer, even though it may be when I meet Him in person.

Emmaus Walk News

We have 11 pilgrims being sponsored by our Northwest Hills Emmaus community!

The list of pilgrims and their sponsors is as follows:

Kathy Bouldin (Sherry Wilkison)

Sonya Loyer (Paulette Payne)

Zel Heaney (Connie Ellis)

Phyllis Smith (Nancy Collins)

Margaret Arnold (Julie Gallia)

Janice Ferguson (Bonnie Moyer)

Pam Carmagnola (Judy Johnson)

Allecia Remington (Judy Johnson)

Jo Carol Snowden (Julile Gallia)

Kathy Quinn, (Diane Coleman)

Kathy is Diane’s daughter

Our Emmaus Community can support these women in several ways.  We need to sign up for prayer times, pillow Agape and Agape food items.  If you can sign up for any of these items, you can do so on-line.  Go to the Greater Austin Emmaus Community.org website.  Click on “Walks” on the left.  Here you will see two links.  One link takes you to sign up for Prayer times.  The other link will take you to sign up for food agape and pillow agape for the Walk.  There are specific food items requested.  And there are instructions for times these items are needed during the Walk.  Both of these lists must be filled before the Walk can start.

We will have a bin at the church office for items if you cannot get them to the actual Walk before they are needed.  These items will be collected on Wednesday evening before the Walk and taken there by noon on Thursday.

Lastly, if you cannot sign up for prayer times or agape, please, please be in prayer for these women and their sponsors as they continue their faith journey.  Let’s give them the BEST WALK EVER!!!

The program for the October meeting of the United Methodist Women will be the first session of a 2-month study of “Climate Justice, A Call to Action and Hope,” presented by Reverend Sue Abold.

Jesus Boat  Witness to Prophecy DVD:   A first century ship, identical to the boat Jesus sailed upon with Peter, was destroyed when Israel was destroyed by the Romans, but found 2000 years later in a series of astonishing events that even scientists called a miracle.  Mirroring Israel’s devastation and survival, the boat discovered by fishermen, would rise against  all odds , and float upon the Sea of Galilee once more as the oldest surviving freshwater boat in the world. Franklin Graham along with many others host the commentary.
