A rite of passage in many United Methodist churches is awarding Bibles to third-graders. Once a year, every year, in congregations across the United States, third-graders line up at the altar rail to receive their Bibles. These third-graders were eager to get their bibles, you could tell this would be a day they would remember. Pastor Audrey prayed over each of them, and spoke to them about how important this book would be in their lives, and guide them through life.

Parents United Methodist Church “Communication” website tells us how we can help these third-graders learn to use this bible. CLICK BELOW

 A New Opportunity to Enhance

Our Traditional Worship Service

There is a new opportunity to enhance our traditional worship service – underwriting the cost of a soloist.
Many of us would also welcome the opportunity to hear a professional soloist perform special music at our   We all enjoy listening to our marvelous sanctuary choir and our wonderful pianist/organist.  Music is an important feature of our traditional worship service.11am worship service. Now you can make that happen by making a special contribution of $100 to underwrite the cost of a professional soloist on the Sunday of your choice.  This gift can be given in honor of someone, in memory of someone or in celebration of a glad event.  Your gift will be acknowledged in the bulletin on the day the soloist performs.
We have long had the opportunity to pay for chancel flowers on the Sunday of our choice as a way to honor someone or celebrate a glad event.  Now we have this second opportunity to enhance worship by giving a gift that blesses all who are present in worship.
To learn more about this opportunity or to commit to underwriting the cost of a professional soloist on a specific Sunday, email Music Director Taylor Kroff

Thoughts on Heaven

As a carefree youth, I never thought too much about the hereafter. But as I’ve grown older, lost beloved friends and family members and generally contemplate my own mortality, I find myself thinking more and more about heaven. What will heaven look like? Will I see my loved ones? What does God have in store for me there?
In John 14, Jesus speaks
with his disciples in the upper room on the night in which he was betrayed. He says,
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the place to where I am going.”
Jesus begins the verse above by telling us not to worry! As believers, we know where we are going. We were made for eternity. Remembering this gives me much comfort and hope for the future.

Emmaus Walk News
The next Emmaus Walk is fast approaching.  The walk will be a Women’s Walk on November 15 through November 18, 2018.  The exciting news is that we have 10 Pilgrims being sponsored by our Northwest Hills Emmaus Community!  If you are interested in going, there is still time to get your applications turned in.  If you have any questions, please call Rayann Coffman at 512-994-7697 or email her at
To our current Northwest Hills Emmaus community – You know your role for taking part in this Walk.  We need to be out in full force to support these women who will be attending the Walk.  If you are unable to take part in the activities, please pray these women have the BEST Walk Ever!
And, again, I am trying to get a complete list of Reunion Groups.  We have a lot of new pilgrims here in our church who need to get connected with a group.  Please contact me or just flag me down in church with your information.  Here is what I need:
Time and day you meet
Where you meet
Closed or Open to new members
Names of people in your group
Thanks for your help in getting this list together.
LASTLY, we have a gathering on September 8 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 4410 Duval Road, Austin.  There will be an agape making party beginning at 4 p.m.  We ran short on agape at the last Men’s Walk.  This is an important part of the Walk and we need to get busy with our reunion groups making that agape.  If you don’t belong to a Reunion Group or are inactive, this is the perfect opportunity to meet with others and get the agape treasure chest full!  Please consider attending.
The Pot Luck dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m.  Music and Worship will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Please plan to attend on September 8.

Parable of Jesus DVD by R.C. Sproul

The most common way that Jesus would explain the kingdom was in parables and what God wants us to learn from these parables is explained in this series. Sprouls examines 12 parables of Jesus, exploring the rich truths they reveal about who Jesus was and what He came to achieve through His life, death, and resurrection.  These 23-minute messages would make an excellent group or individual study of the parables of Jesus.

Seeing Gray in a World of Black and White – DVD Study and Leader’s Guide by Adam Hamilton.Thoughts on Religion, Morality and Politics. Everyone agrees that America is polarized with ever hardening positions held by people less and less willing to listen to one another.  The world is not always black and white and it’s complex and complicated.  But there are certain things that we can agree upon and one is that we want to pursue justice, righteousness, kindness and mercy.  We’re going to have different strategies for doing that, which calls us to be able to look at other people and say, “Though we disagree…I still want to listen to you because you’re my brother or sister.”  We need to offer our opinions with humility, not as though we absolutely know the truth, but recognizing that we could be wrong about an issue. Even though this was published in ’08, it is probably more relevant today and would be a great group or individual study.

Why? Making Sense of God’s Will – Book, DVD study and study guide by Adam Hamilton

Hamilton brings fresh insight to the age old question of how to understand the will of God. Rejecting simplistic answers and unexamined assumptions, Hamilton addresses how we can comprehend God’s plan for the world and ourselves.  Sessions include: Why do the innocent suffer?  Why do my prayers go unanswered?  Why can’t I see God’s will for my life? and Why God’s love prevails. This will be an enlightening study for group or individual use.

We have many selections in books,   Do come and browse the library to see what might interest you.
audio books, DVD’s, Bible studies, magazines and even Christian games.
